Stephen Whitehead, Chief Executive Officer of the ABPI (represents innovative research-based biopharmaceutical companies in the UK), said: “We have an innovation deficit in the UK and NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) is actually aware of it”.
To help tackle this professor Gillian Leng, Deputy Chief Executive of NICE, announced, at the annual conference in Birmingham, that NICE will produce new Medtech Innovation Briefings that will provide objective information on promising devices and diagnostics. NICE will produce about 40 new Medical Innovation briefings per year, which reflects the scale of new innovations that are arriving.
This is a very good initiative of NICE because it will enlarge the awareness of new innovations. It also will ensure that the full potential of the innovation will be tested in the market. We expect NICE to produce an innovation briefing on one of our services or devices!
